There's no explanation as to why the objects can't just be put in a marked box and stored away like what used to be common practice. It isn't clear why they're not sold as souvenirs to the public (that can restore them at home as a hobby) either. It is claimed the motive is to 'not create a market' for cultural artefacts. My guess is it's simply due to a complete lack of regard for Swedish cultural heritage and a complete lack of respect. Entire organizations now care so little for thousands of years of Swedish art and heritage that they rather just toss ancient artefacts in the trash than let the general public preserve them.

The problem is with the museums. They only accept conserved items now. I blame the politically motivated meddling in museum mission statements. They are now to focus more on "education and compelling storytelling" and less on collecting stuff. You can guess what kind of stories the leftists in charge wants to be told. It needs to be stopped. The linked Op-Ed is a good example of the push back that is under way. The minister in charge is from the Green party. They are the most culturally marxist of them all.

When I renovated my summerplace in the countryside I had a new sewage system made to the now over 100 year old house, one place to contact was the Museum department in order to get official approval for the works. You see some 300 meters from my summerplace there had been a medieval village starting at least from the 14th Century.

The official came from the Museum department but after looking around said immediately that during that era the place where the house is was likely under water or at least on directly on the shoreline (as the bedrock keeps rising here after the last ice-age and the house is close to the sea). But he asked to notify them if we find something interesting during the digging.

The renovators vowed to destroy any historical artefact that would come up, but I didn't care if the works would be lengthed a month or two. History is allways interesting. (Nothing was found)

They were worried if I'd cancel the whole job. Of course I wouldn't do that. And besides there was enough work otherwise in basically a restauration of an house. I mean, you have to do a renovation in 100 years, right?

Oh I would have been delighted if they would have found something and they would have come to check it out.

We destroy our historic sites in the U.S. all the time. The government doesn't stop it. I don't see any 'patriots' showing up here to prevent the teardown of a colonial era tavern where an early minuteman militia was formed. I can walk down the block and look at the shell of a mid 18th century house where Washington actually did sleep, everything of value stripped and sold by a guy whose ancestors were in Germany when it was built.
