Yes, Okee.

The regulated, internationalist capitalism combined with a expansive welfare state that eventually developed, and spurned the greatest growth mankind has ever seen, was one of the many alternatives that could have sprung up in response to the isolationist capitalism, Soviet socialism, or national socialism/fascism much en vogue before and during the interwar period, and critiqued by the Frankfurt group.

What the folks in the Frankfurt school recognized is that all three of those systems depend on resource accumulation for the exclusive use of their own states in order to provide for the population. It was pretty obvious that would create conflicts. They also realized they could draw from other philosophical ideas to make their case about changing minds and the social order. (This is, I think, is the 'cultural Marxism' part, but that term is such a catch all for anything stupid the left does it is sort of difficult to unpack what any particular poster means when they use it. Also prescient, I might add, since it is just the 'politics is downstream from culture' Chestnut fashionably tossed about this past decade.) Hence the proposed alternatives all involved some measure of internationalism... for better or for worse, to allow for the greatest possible economic growth with the least conflict. Not much of a shock that many of their ideas would gain popularity following the destruction of the second World War.

This is the slightly more charitable interpretation of their thinking, admittedly free from the requisite hyperventilation over Marxism... on account of my closeted communism sympathizing.

I'm not talking about what happened after the 60s, but the reasonable genesis of their thinking.

The huge bodycount is obvious as the ideology is inherently violent, promotes violence and has it's core the violent overthrow of an enemy, the capitalists. With that kind of ideology, it's no wonder that at the grass roots, with the ordinary people, it comes down to killing the rich.

It's truly remarkable that this ideology is taught in academia when you think about it. How nonchalantly it's abysmal record is passed. It would be like we would have in the universities chairs for Nazi studies, with professors arguing naturally while Hitler was bad, he just got it wrong, yet nazism basically is a great ideology and can give us many insights and useful answer for our present problems. And these professors and researchers would be given an honourable position in the academic world.
