Nuke's right on the spot for all of us Scandinavians. I'm Danish, and Danes pretty much never meet any Finns or really know all that much about Finland. They're not a neighbouring country, and unlike Swedish and Norwegian, their language is completely unrecognizable to us. And Danes have long mocked Swedes for being ridiculously PC and obsessed with controlling everything, even way before we started talking about SJW's on the DCF/MHF I might add. There isn't dislike, or earnestly negative stereotypes at all against Norwegians from Danes.

But teasing about the national stereotypes and the occasional mockery aside, most of us consider there to be a special cultural and historical bond between the Scandinavian countries as well as sharing several common ideals about how to organize society. It doesn't really rise to dislike, although Danes often roll their eyes when some Swedish politician or commentator, accuses Danish politicians or public figures of being "racist". But that's still more of a sort of resigned annoyance than dislike.

And "Nords" are either the barbarian Norse-like race from Skyrim, or the name of a biker gang on "Sons of Anarchy". Finns are Nordic, in the sense that they are a Nordic country. The word "nord" simply means "north". Which is outrageous, when you think about it... that means that we are supposed to consider France or Germany the Center of the world. But Finns are not ethnically, culturally or linguistically the same as Norwegians, Swedes and Danes, although there are some hilarious far-rights vigilantes in Finland calling themselves something like Sons of Odin. Just something funny about nationalists defending foreign religions by invoking a non-native, foreign religion rather than their own, pre-Christian faith.

That's true, northern Italy, southern Italy, two totally different Italy's, but I tend to go south of Rome, because northern Italy, while nice, is not very exotic, and southern Italy is nice and hot, I can get cool in Canada, I don't need to go to Italy to get northern Italian weather.

Probably changed since you've been. Rome, while always trashy, has gotten really bad. Or at least the province. I'm sure they keep the tourist attractions up.

I went to Rome in '97. Had to buy umbrellas after enormous flocks of swallows (I think) covered the sky black and flew over several sections of Rome... bird shit galore, every day. Hopefully they did something about that since then. Was in Vatican City, too, and they didn't fly in and shit all over the people when John Paul II blessed the crowds.

Are the Baltic countries a good place to live? I was looking this up and it is saying that Poland Denmark and Russia are also considered Baltic because they touch the sea, but I thought Baltic just meant Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. This europe region semantic shit is absurd.

Don't say that. Sweden changes very fast. They have stricter border control and immigration policies than we could ever hope to achieve and it's no longer taboo to talk about assimilation.

I honestly don't know about Baltic countries' living standard. I think I heard something about one of the Baltic countries having a boom in IT industries and services or something, but here we mostly get acquinted with them the same way we get acquinted with Poles... if they are cheaper than the natives, and they want to come over to work... usually construction.

might have something to do with those nations being formerly part of different nations. different nations that were larger, and did border the sea. then you cut the territory up, and some of the new nations are now landlocked. just a guess.

My knowledge of medieval Nordic history is mostly limited to vikings and Europa Universalis. But Denmark did control both Sweden and Norway in the 15th century, correct? Wouldn't that explain the 'special bond' between them? Were they considered a single nation-ish at the time, or more like Scotland being ruled by England for a while?
