I wonder what the genetic and behavioral consequences are of a population breeding for over a thousand years under the auspices of a religious cultural norm that rewards the genetics of rapists.

How common was this in the more distant past?
Pretty common. The film Conan the destroyer is actually based on the real movie Conan the Barbarian made 2 years earlier. If you haven't seen it you should. Its a great way to learn about Conan the Destroyer.
