I miss these types of movies. Now the most similar movies all seem to take their cue from the crappy Clash of the Titans remake. Why can't these current movies take more cues from Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, or Lord of the Rings.

Decent article.

Movies are usually going to let you down if you're hoping for historical accuracy. Consider the first example in this thread: Troy. While we can't really call most of the source material history, the movie totally fucks up the interpretation anyways. There were some good shots and performances, but seriously, the death of Menelaus, the "sword of Troy", the role of Briseis, all totally fucked up.

Movies do romantic nonsense better than they do history, so there will always be issues with historical movies.

At least get the spirit right and leave the modern ideas out. That's how the Koreans do it for the most part. Too bad their numerous historical tv series have so many knights in shinning armors.
