Server Problems

Post by Jason Simonds »

So some features of the forums software got turned on by mistake. This caused an massive server load. Because of the way these features work I had to place server site blocks in place until the paths and links to these items are gone.

The short version:
if someone tried to use the feature even if it's turned off, the database has to check if it can be used. This loads the database.

On the server does this easy if you are in an IP range = "No Soup For You"

Friday, the forums will come down to return on the server server some time late Sunday

Small update,
  • The load times have been fixed.
  • All blocks in the web server were removed
  • Only 1 IP Range is now blocked by our fire wall 47.0.0.0/8
A short overview, when the settings got changed I assume a miss click turned on a settings quests. It looks like this built a bot net sense there is no flood interval for that setting. The servers were in the in the 47.0.0.0/8. The web server was having trouble parsing that many addresses
