Didn't you get Capps' memo?
obviously as an Ulster Scot, I don't view Britannia as a monolith

tyrannical Papist Fenians are British too

That's why we put verse six into the national anthem.

Quick little headline grab I did for the topic.
Man, I'm so old I remember when the media celebrated our athletes winning, not quitting, or raising awareness, or proclaiming new eras of mental health at the Olympics.

But then ... that was back when strength was a virtue.
Now it's all about weakness.
That's vomit inducing.

Wonder how this will affect the ratings going forward. Who wants to watch Olympic athletes bow out and not even try?

I get that there is immense pressure for these athletes. A lot of them are still teens. Still, this is what you've been working years for. Many hours a day almost every day. If you have anxiety or mental health issues, you should have bowed out before so someone else who really wants it can have the opportunity. This doesn't say brave or courageous it says selfish and opportunistic. Now she doesn't have to deal with failure. The media will fawn over her and she will get shows and books about her mental health.

ever since I got rid of cable, I have been thankfully detached from the sports world completely

I don't get any sports news, except here on the forum, mostly from Monte

I'm not even mad at Simone or Osaka for hitting a wall and having to quit.
I pity them for it.

I'm mad at the media constantly trumpeting failure as success, sickness as strength, and losers as winners.

No rifled barrel on a shotgun. Unless you are firing slugs and have a slug barrel.
If you need to know anything else about guns just ask.
Always happy to help out a novice.

Between gravity and the rotational forces of Earth, I imagine everything in the air "spins" on some level, eh?
