Almost all reports from soldiers facing the Germans showed them to be upright in their conduct, even to POWs. Contrast this with how the Wehrmacht has been presented since the end of the war.

The Wermacht definitely gets a raw portrayal. The Soviets and Japs get treated with kid gloves. Americans generally get favorable treatment, but are more likely portrayed as brutes.

He fought in the Great War, but those comments were from a WWII visit to Caen during Allied occupation.
