Its making me want to read/listen to it on audible eve more when I see remarks about how racist and sexist it is or the author was! haha. I've never read it though. Tarzan that is. Seems like a story right up my alley.
His stories are usually about masculinity. If you want to see how awesome they are, read any feminist review of his novels, especially Princess of Mars.

Tarzan series is surprisingly good storytelling.

Mark Twain's " autobiographies" just volumes and volumes of his diatribes and dictations are sometimes hilarious always entertaining.

I appreciate your Dostoevsky and Steinbeck list. I too have read those. I recommend cannery row and the idiot fwiw. Not as good as the ones you listed but still good if you like those authors.
