He was standing on the shoulders of Beckwith.

What McChrystal did in Iraq was already in the JSOC playbook, McC just got the mandate put it into action.

He’s not one of the best, but his Team of Teams book outlining how he approached the asymmetrical warfare in Iraq was pretty interesting. I’d be surprised if JSOC had all of it in their playbook beforehand.

Bear in mind, McChrystal is a Ranger.

Relentlessly driven PT god. But not actually all that bright.

He's a great synthesizer tho.

McChrystal is like a great Rapper.

He knows who to sample and how.

He doesn’t have to be bright. Just good at spotting bright people and organizing them effectively under a command structure. He seemed good at that, which for a General is often “good enough”.

Not good enough to be one of the best tho.

He shot his mouth off to the reporter. He let the liberal media inside the wire and handed them the crown jewels.

That's not professional. That's like something I would do, not a General.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go partying with McC.

Beckwith however, is way above my pay grade.

Only a cocky Ranger would shoot his mouth off. CAG is Omerta.

Do you think Michael Hastings was just driving high and stupid, or was he assassinated for his work on the Operators?

I certainly find the assassination theory to be plausible.

Hacking the car and driving it off the road is an established JSOC TTP.
