The Vietnam flashbacks are not realistic by the standards of Saving Private Ryan, none the less, they were very good by 1970's tv standards.

One of the many charms of Magnum is the way it went against the Hollywood Vietnam Vet narrative, Team Magnum is Vietnam vets living well, fighting injustice, saving lives, was refreshing after the 70's, which was non stop Hollywood tales of Vietnam Vet misery, woe and dysfunction.

Lots of shows back then had Vietnam Vet characters. Sonny Crocket was a Vietnam vet who got into narcotics enforcement after discovering heroin being smuggled in the bodies of fallen soldiers.

And I mean, ca'mon, John Hillerman is worth the price of admission alone, and who had any clue at the time that Higgins was actually from Texas? Master performance.

The Elmo Ziller Story. Season 2, Episode 21
Higgins' illegitimate half brother Elmo.
Magnum is convinced Higgins and Elmo are the same guy, one of the best episodes of them all

Fun fact, Zeus and Apollo were played by two sets of three Dobermans.
The first set was only for season one, for the remaining seven seasons it was two males named Whiskey and Brutus and the spare was a female named Dominique.

My stepmother was a big Magnum fan, big crush on Tom Selleck.
She went to Hawaii on vacation specifically to go the set and see what she could see, maybe catch a glimpse.
Selleck actually came out to greet the fans at the end of shooting and hung out signing autographs and chatting.
She had a framed picture of him and her together, the man is all class.

Loggia's character in Lost Highway is amazing. Tailgating is a serious problem.Smitty-48 wrote: Sun Mar 10, 2019 12:55 pm Magnum season one has it all, Kung fu Assassins, the IRA, the Mossad, Robert Loggia, Jose Ferrer, Orson Welles.
