With all due respect, you make light of Poe. That's my point.

Never. Why do you think so? He was the master of the short story. His works weren’t edited for the anthology that I know of. I know half of it is poetry but it’s still a book. Dickens wrote serials but his books are great in their entirety.

Sorry, this is a great thread.

What's the magic about the "circa" 1950 or before tho?

That's a serious question.

A lot of folks think anything old, like B&W movies, sucks. I couldn't believe it when a young man in the early 90's told me he had never watched a B&W movie, if he saw one he'd keep flipping stations.
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND

The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. Great work, but you could read Poe to cheer up afterward.

Are we talking about movies, or books?

I know that young people don't watch any b/w video, do you need someone to tell you that they don't read books (from any era) either?

The vocabulary, syntax and prose coming from pre 1950 Western authors is generally superior.
