The rise and fall of “honorable” warfare. The end of face-to-face massed combat. The birth of the nation-state. The codes of status and nobility.

Basically, the “middle age” of civilization.
What medieval civilization would you most want to live in if you had to? I'd probably go with England, but it wouldn't be a picnic there.
Chinese/Japanese, probably. Pretty stable places to live.

Maybe American, but you’d have to pick the right tribe. I’m guessing the Sioux probably had it best of any of them.

The Great Wall of China is literally filled with the bones of the people they forced to build it. Daralon is not wrong when he calls them ant people.

At least you knew the rules, unlike medieval Europe. There, you’d be mown down by whatever passing warlord got frisky, without even a warning. Or your own lord would get annoyed and kill you on a whim, or you had a bad harvest and starved.

In Asia, they had rudimentary welfare and a functional government at least. Not to mention some form of medicine.

Your understanding of medieval Europe is lacking. It's a mythical world constructed by atheists that has little to do with historical reality.

King Edward subduing the Northern rabble etc...
I'm really interested in the English Civil War, though not knowledgable on it. I have watched a few youtube videos on it and read some short articles, but for whatever reason it is extremely fascinating to me. Eventually I'm going to sit down and read a full length book on it.

As an aside, I found clips for a Cromwell movie on youtube. It is an older film but it looks good. Have you seen it?
If that is the Oliver Reed film from the 60s it is worth watching for the battle scenes.
The cavalry charges have hundreds of horses and there are huge numbers of foot soldiers. No CGI obviously so it is all shot live.
They don't make them like that any more.
It looks like this one was made in 1970. But I want to see it. Are you a Cromwell fan Monte? He's well regarded in Ireland, no?

Well that’s true, I’d be getting some occasional entertainment from sinners being tortured to death, and burned at a stake if I had wrongthink. Enticing.
