Oh, they were plotting against him. People ask, why didn't someone kill him, they tried and often. In Hitlers first year as Chancellor I think there were 5 attempts to kill him and around 40 prior to 1939 and the start of the war.

That Stauffenberg plot was the one where they got hung with piano wire from meat hooks. That stupid Tom Cruise movie was based on it. One of his generals kept a diary and for years was plotting a coup against Hitler, but the guy never had the balls to pull the trigger. I'm not talking about Rommel. It was a different general as well.

No, but I'll check it out though. That movie felt real to me. I don't know if it was "realistic" overall but it felt real. The impending sense of doom and all. The fact that it didn't end well for the "heroes" also makes it seem very tragic, which it was. I'm sentimental and a romantic that likes the tragic a little too much I suppose.

I have not seen that movie in a long time. I need to watch it again.

Have you seen this about Eastern Germany?
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405094/

Some of the subplot needs to be ignored b/c it can be taken as "only people that the Stasi wanted to spy on for personal reasons were spied on.

No I hadn't. I'll try to watch it.

What is the name of that town in former East Germany that basically hasn't changed, and it still pines for and celebrates its years under Stalin and the Soviets ?

Kaliningrad. It’s still Russian territory.

That sounds familiar, but I'm not a hundred percent sure it's the one I'm thinking of. I saw it on a documentary type piece. I'll try to find it and post it.
