Re: Historical Arguments and Debates
Volcanic activity has been linked to other mass extinction events. A double whammy of mass eruptions and a huge asteroid strike would kill off most things.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The Permian Extinction is linked to volcanoes. That was MUCH worse than the Cretaceous - something like 99% of life wiped out.Montegriffo wrote: Sun Aug 19, 2018 10:18 am Volcanic activity has been linked to other mass extinction events. Nobody knows what the causes were for the Permian Extinction. Their are several hypothesis, of which volcanic activity remains one possible *contributing* factor.
Volcanoes by themselves are not going to cause a mass extinction event on this planet. At least not at this point.

The entire scientific community has no definitive answer to this question. Am I arguing against actual science or Bill Nye "science" again?
