It would be like me putting on a camo jacket and calling myself a soldier.
Any shmuck can buy a set of whites and some knives but it doesn't make them a chef.

You have to go to school to become a chef. You don't just learn how to cook house meals for some restaurant somewhere and then become a chef. A chef can go ANYWHERE and consistently produce whatever is required in his chosen discipline.

Before enlisting, I worked in restaurants. I worked in a restaurant that ran on the brigade system. We had chefs for pretty much everything. Anytime I was assigned to do something in the kitchen, I wasn't <x> chef. I was something more like <x> cook. Most of the time I just shucked oysters like an asshole.

The head chef would explain shit to us all the time. There is WAY WAY WAY fucking more to this than just cooking food according to a recipe you have written down somewhere. These dudes understand how your taste senses work and even the chemical processes involved in cooking and baking.
I earned my bones, I started from the ground and worked my way to Chef.

You don’t have to go to school to become one... you have to have talent for it. To say only people who go to school can be on is elitists.

I had three line cooks, two preps, two dishwashers.

Front of the house was five servers, a “Matradee” and an expediter.

4 cooks to serve 700 covers? That just screams fast food restaurant to me.
The best place I ever worked had 7 cooks serving around 20 covers.

Ps chef means chief or boss. There can only be one chef (short for ''chef de cuisine'') per kitchen and often they don't even cook.

I don’t want to boast, but I’m a pretty badass microwave chef.
Not formally trained or anything, but I got a serious knack for knowing how long to heat things up to the second.

I’m a natural.
