But let's not pretend this wasn't a set up, like many interviews are. She intended to take Jordan Peterson down a notch and got stung. Then when things get hot as a result, men running Channel 4 come to her defense........... Which is just what Peterson was talking about in the interview................. that's what I find funniest and most revealing.

He's not middle brow. He is actually quite effective at what he does. You are looking at the pedestrian academic content he puts out there and not at what he is actually doing. He is one manipulative human being. Watch that video again, but instead of watching it like a routine back-and-forth exchange, consider the possibility that he is manipulating her the entire time (he is).

In general, what I have seen him do with his cult-like audience is break them down to feel inadequate, but offer them the hope to climb out of it if only they buy his courses and follow his advice. You have legions of millennials who's lives were set back by various factors. Peterson comes along to make them feel acutely inadequate and failed, but he's doing it to help them, they just need to listen and follow his advice (and buy his courses).

I don't hardly know who Kathy Newman is, but I can tell you without looking at her body of work that she goes easy on people she likes and agrees with politically. But I always thought he was supremely overrated, but I wasn't viewing him as a self-help hustler first and an academic second. Framing it that way makes a lot of sense.
