I mean Progressive as in Progressive Platform which was highlighted with ideals like Eugenics, Nation Building and wonderful domestic law like Prohibition.Hwen Hoshino wrote:By progressive you mean, social democratic or something else ?C-Mag wrote:This is part of the reason I consider Woodrow Wilson our worst president ever. While Teddy is considered a Progressive, he was a proto-progressive, Woody blew up the whole damn thing.
I firmly believe we are in the early stages of that 21st C Revolution that will see the end of a century of Progressivism. IMO, it's still up in the air as to whether more Liberty or Tyranny will win out. Should be a fun ride.

I'm fine with discussing the roots of many of these repulsive policies like the War on Drugs in the modern left, but let's not kid ourselves. Much of the impetus for locking people in cages for decades because they have a chemical the gov't doesn't like also comes from the right. I am around a lot of small government, taxation is theft, crooked Hillary types, but as soon as you start talking about drug decriminalization or legalization they turn into Nikita Kruschev. They are fine with fine with personal accountability and small government until it comes to drugs. Then they go full retard. Even some self professed "Libertarians" I know would let the government install cameras in their bedrooms if it meant stopping drugs, not that this will ever happen.C-Mag wrote:I mean Progressive as in Progressive Platform which was highlighted with ideals like Eugenics, Nation Building and wonderful domestic law like Prohibition.Hwen Hoshino wrote:By progressive you mean, social democratic or something else ?C-Mag wrote:This is part of the reason I consider Woodrow Wilson our worst president ever. Not that I'm against legalization, but should recognize; it's just a money grab, as the right tries to starve the beast, the left is constantly mooching around for new revenue streams to pay the public sector unions.
The objective of the right is to defund the public sector, not find new revenue streams for them. Get the public sector small enough so it can be put in the bathtub and strangled, feeding it dope money is counter to those interests.

you might be right, but I have seen very few of these drug money revenue leftist in America. There is not a major party in America that has advocated for drug decriminalization, and even Rand and Ron our so called Libertarians don't advocate anything beyond Marijuana. If it took the argument of feeding the beast (ie: feeding public unions from tax revenue) to get drugs decriminalized in America, I would be fine with that. Sometimes, graft works out for the average American.Smitty-48 wrote:Not that I'm against legalization, but should recognize; it's just a money grab, as the right tries to starve the beast, the left is constantly mooching around for new revenue streams to pay the public sector unions.

From my experience, most small government conservatives in America don't give two shits about civil liberties. They just want to own guns and pay low taxes. The 2nd Amendment is the only one these people care about. Talk about the 4th with them and you hear a bunch of weasel word bullshit. Pisses me off.

Tobacco is the currently favoured leftist public sector funding drug of choice, the highest tobbacco taxes are in the Blue States, NY is number one at $4.00 a pack, followed by CT, RI, MA, and HI.heydaralon wrote:you might be right, but I have seen very few of these drug money revenue leftist in America.
