Disagree, Freak and Geeks is better, and only had one season. TOS was starting to go downhill in the third season after Gene Roddenberry stepped down as showrunner, it made sense to cancel it. TOS is better for only having 3 seasons, despite the five year mission tag line.

Fuck NBC and the horse they rode in on. They are The Kings of Network Idiocy.

I’ll be interested to see the mass letter-writing campaign that brings it back, launching 5 more shows, and a dozen movies.

Anyway, I thought we weren’t discussing comedies? That’s about the only thing networks do right. Modern Family is hilarious.

You can't bring Freaks and Geeks back, that's one of the reasons why it's so lame it was cancelled, you can't just get the band back together and have it work. All the actors are too old to play their roles. Besides a larger cult following doesn't mean a show is better, that is no mic drop, you are confusing quality with popularity. Kind of unfair to compare comedies to dramas though, it's apples and oranges. But yeah the Freaks and Geeks cancellation is worse.

Modern Family, meh. So many better comedies that aren't on network TV these days, and considering it's emmy run, one of the most overrated shows of all time. Not a bad show though, it's not like it sucks.

But yeah Network TV hasn't fallen off as much on the comedy tip, this is true.

I've heard good things about Hannibal (NBC) though, especially the cinematography, never got around to it though. These are the exceptions of course, far from the rule.
Hannibal is mediocre. But I thought the same thing about Lost and 24 and didn't watch Friday night Lights.

I can't think of a Network drama I really liked in the 21st century at all. But luckily my brain has been rotted enough by TV in general I can rewatch Columbo, Rockford Files, etc. with some regularity as I forget everything after a while.
I dint think Hannibal was a great show, but it was way better than other network shows. Not that it had much competition lol. Its problem was it was always a bit pretentious. I did enjoy watching it though in spite of that.

Just remembered another great network drama. West Wing.

Don’t care what you say, that was a high-water mark for intelligent tv.

Personally, I have never liked Aaron Sorkin's writing. It feels forced, and its like he sets up arguments for himself to win. News Room is even more preachy. Idk man, the guy's writing is very pseudo intellectual and stilted. I gave west wing a try, and I can't deal with the Sorkin.

I just find the pace stimulating. There’s always a lot of little trivia and knowledge bombs sprinkled in too.

Lost was pretty fantastic until the final episode. These guys had no plan all along and just threw some shit at the wall.... "god done it." blech

Friday Night Lights was a great drama until the season where they switched schools on coach. It went down hill from there.

I think it started falling apart before the last episode, you could tell they were trying to answer too many of the shows mysteries in the last season and it was leading in one direction. They should never picked a side in religion or science battle, that was a huge part of the show, and the ending undermined it by saying one side was right and one side was wrong. But yeah basically aside from the ending, fantastic show, especially for Network TV, I highly recommend it to those who haven't seen it, warts and all.

Well there was also the whole Landry incident, in the Second Season, that was sooo stupid. I liked it better before they switched schools too, because I liked the first group of kids better, but it don't go downhill that much, considering they kids graduating on them was issue built into the cake that they had to deal with.
