We don't have a dedicated conspiracy space, so I figured I'd make one. I got the idea for this thread from watching a Netflix documentary called, "Unacknowledged". Here's the trailer:
This is one of the more compelling documentaries I've seen on the subject. It rings with just enough truth to make you at least wonder if they're actually serious.
I got to thinking about it, and thought about all the disinformation that the government released during the Cold War to encourage all of these UFO nuts in order to trick the Russians into putting resources into investigating it under the assumption that America was investigating it as well. If you take some of the Cold War "disclosures" about UFOs that were released to the crazies, and take them to their logical extreme, then it's no surprise that the UFO mythos has ballooned from the initial releases of disinformation.
I suggest watching it, though. It's pretty entertaining. The intro is pretty gratuitous, though. The dead syrian boy, columbine shooters, stuff like that. They were probably going for the "the government wants you to be violent, dumb, and distracted, maaaaaaaaaaaan" angle with it, but I thought it was a little much, myself.
