Oh, it's an insidious organization. Just imagine if someone said, you know what we need? An Army of men walking through every neighborhood in wool pants handing out pottery catalogs. Would you go for that?

You were warned.

I don't know that the US standard of living would drop that much. Fortress America in my view also means stopping subsidizing other countries. We give money to 96% of all the countries in the UN, in excess of $50 Billion a year. Then you can add another $10 Billion plus to NATO and the UN. Then we can add to that the $116 Billion a year illegal immigration costs us. Suddenly we are nearing $200 Billion a year that we give away. Wean the world off the trough, and our debt would go down.

Then if you are Fortress America. You don't need troops in 177 of the 194 countries in the world. You don't need 800 military bases around the globe either. Definitely enough money left to put an M4 over every mantel.

I can understand wanting to quit subsidizing so many countries, and I can empathize with you wanting to leave NATO. But you think not being allied with anyone, leaving most major international organizations and no longer being the world's superpower would have no effect on US trade?

Our Founders specifically opposed foreign entanglements. It's something we haven't tried for a century or more. IMO, the world wants us playing world police, being the superpower, being the great satan. When we subsidize anything from individual countries, to the UN to NATO, we mess with the free will and free association of other nations. Other nations should want this too, I don't know why they like being bitches to the US politicians so much.

Its funny, 15 odd years ago when I was a radical 22 year old Leftist listening to KPFA all day in my FedEx truck all of their shows were interviewing the author of Blowback and speaking how we needed to stop these new wars.

Right there with Obama making fun of Romney for being concerned about the Russians.

I find it amusing how Obama and the others now claim it's "Russia, Russia, Russia!" now, but when it was back then, the DNC was laughing at Romney because they knew the truth and the media would never report it.

Now...well, Russia is still in the DNC playbook but in the butthurt category because they lost.
