As a Floridian I am part Calusa, but only the alcoholic part. SF: I think being an Indian would be cool too man. Don't sweat the haters. I would go with a warlike tribe though, not some pussy one like the Hope.

Chinese history from the Bronze Age to today is noted for its lack of concern for human life of it's citizens. They spend their entire energy controlling their own populace, from dynasty to dynasty.
China wouldn't make my Top Ten list of places to live, regardless of time in history.

I wouldn't either. I forget if it was the Qing dynasty but one of them had a series of brutal emperors that attempted a non modern form of totalitarianism. Even back in the day China sucked. General Tso is the only one I liked from their history, because of his fire ass chicken.C-Mag wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 9:55 pm Chinese history from the Bronze Age to today is noted for its lack of concern for human life of it's citizens. I'm not a hater of Indians (feather, not dot), I'm a hater of Amerindian Utopia Mythology. Indians had it going on, great hunting cultures, great warrior cultures, very merit based cultures.heydaralon wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 9:52 pm As a Floridian I am part Calusa, but only the alcoholic part. I would have loved to see massive herds of animals on the American serengheti, the sky darkening flocks of birds, and streams so choked with salmon that they couldn't get out of the way when you stepped in the water.

I'm very much a novice at Chinese history, but it's pretty obvious that brutality to their own citizens is rule of the day throughout that history. I wonder if that Totalitarianism kept China from seeing the type of renaissance that Europe saw ? Most would probably say China was ahead of the West in technology up to the Renaissance, then they just stagnate.heydaralon wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 9:59 pmI wouldn't either. Could have been 1970. It was on the box a few months ago. The dialogue was dull but the sight of a massed cavalry charge and some wonderful locations made it worth watching.heydaralon wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 4:22 pmIt looks like this one was made in 1970. But I want to see it. Are you a Cromwell fan Monte? He's well regarded in Ireland, no?Montegriffo wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 2:46 pmIf that is the Oliver Reed film from the 60s it is worth watching for the battle scenes.heydaralon wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 2:35 pm
I'm really interested in the English Civil War, though not knowledgable on it. I have watched a few youtube videos on it and read some short articles, but for whatever reason it is extremely fascinating to me. Eventually I'm going to sit down and read a full length book on it.
As an aside, I found clips for a Cromwell movie on youtube. It is an older film but it looks good. Have you seen it?
The cavalry charges have hundreds of horses and there are huge numbers of foot soldiers. No CGI obviously so it is all shot live.
They don't make them like that any more.
As for Cromwell, I would fully support having his corpse dug up so he could be tried and hung again. Being dug up and hung only once does not fit his crimes.
It could become a yearly tradition like burning Catholics on bonfires.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

The only Cromwell that served the British well in a time of need.

Cromwell gave you a Commonwealth in the first place.
England had a nascent colony in Virginia, but Cromwell won already developed colonies in the Caribbean, bringing England much wealth and the beginnings of a Commonwealth.
