I hope this is true. I suspect it is, for the following reasons.
1. US forces are not ready to go to war due to a number of issues.
2. The US has seen the utter brutality of the Ukraine War, and want no part of it. The US would not put up with a war that would likely produce 5,000 - 10,000 American casualties per month
3. The US is too far behind on 21st C Warfare, drones, hypersonic missile tech
4. Our military logistics are tapped out, due to 20 years of war and supporting the Ukraine War. We don't have the industrial base to restock, let alone fight an industrial war of attrition.
5. No one wants to be in the military, and conditions in the US would not support a Draft. Even if you start a Draft, you won't have troops ready to deploy for at least 18 months.

I mean…. There’s no chance this would resemble WW2 with mass mobilizations. It’s a 30-minute war at most. Everything after is just survival.

Not necessarily.
We got through WWII with an agreement chemical weapons would not be used. We got through 50 years of cold war, proxy wars without going nuke.

But I get your meaning
I guess we could hope to spend a year or two fighting to a stalemate, but there’s no scenario in which one side being existentially threatened would not use them.
