It's a fun theory but I don't agree with it. First of all, it's a variant of the
Eternal return concept. The story of Western Ascendance is a break from that. To go back to the Wheal of Life is weak thinking.
Cyclical time has utility but it's mostly for farmers and midwives. We need a vision to take us into a better future. Even an exodus is better that that fatalistic claptrap.
It's also appears as a massive exercise in confirmation bias.

I disagree with almost everything that guy says. Trump winning will blow him out of the water.
Howe hates Trump. In 2015 he was predicting a transformational leader for US. Then Trump won and he spun, but it's not him.
The theory has many truths, even if Howe massages current interpretations.
For instance successful populism always moves to legitimize the majority.
I just think Howes academic echo chamber makes him think the woke are the majority.

So, like Dan did?

The only truth in his "turning" theory is that generations are different from one another; he then suggests they repeat themselves and that's a way to predict the future, a classic con. His bias towards elitism overpowers everything, and his condensing attitude puts me off virtually every page. His lack of self-awareness is indicative of a narcissist. Also, his book is so old, the predictions are already broken. It's just New Age bullshit written back during the New Age and inapplicable now.
p.s. And you called it on denying Trump as the "transformative figure." Jesus, Trump is the most transformative president since FDR, maybe since Teddy.

It appears to me that Howe is Capitalizing on the brain child of William Strauss, as Howe has no additional works from the 1991 book.
I still believe there are things to learn from cyclical history models and the trends of generations and society

Everything wears out and has to be revitalized, even liberty.
The Cold War generation, Boomers, was all about liberty, good & bad. Their pampered kids, not-so-much, and those mostly don't even have kids but the ones who do are more traditional, so liberty may come back into vogue?

Surely China wouldn't try to start something with such a strong, quick and vibrant POTUS in office.
Plus, the MSM told me we dont have to worry about going to war anymore

Right! China wanted Trump out for multiple reasons and it’s not taking long for them to capitalize on their bio weapon attack now that Trump is not POTUS and we have a diaper wearing demented old circus monkey as POTUS.
