I suppose it's a question of worldview. To me, a rockstar getting blackout drunk or high on whatever every day seems like a person desperate to fill a void. To someone else, "dey jus' libin' dey' bes' lyfe"

I look back to the Caesars and other historical god-figures. Remember that they needed a slave to remind them 'you are mortal' during a Triumph. Same with rich kids tending to go straight off the rails during adolescence.
Once you pass beyond normal societal/economic constraints, you lose your rudder. It's not something that the rest of us could really understand, but I think they're looking for a challenge. We all need something to work for.
