Which means chances are it could be repaired but they make a commission on selling you a new one.

Know a guy online who had two different "AC repair" people out for his AC unit who said it needed to be replaced before figuring out himself a $30 part would fix it. And he's maintained it himself for years since.

One of the great things about being a lawyer is that the service can't really be imported.
