I suppose a serated carving knife makes sense if you don't know how to sharpen a blade, otherwise they are useful for slicing bread and nothing else.

The knife is a unitasker. It is meant for a single function. You use it to carve turkey and of the sort. You pull that knife out once or twice a year. If you are using it for more than it’s original purpose you are using it wrong.

Funny though, the knives are good quality, high-quality steel, they hold an edge well. No knife holds an edge well enough for me, hence why I sharpen a blade every time before I use it.

Most of the reasons people spend several hundred to thousands of dollars on a set like the one I got is because of the name attached to the knife or set overall. Too many people spend $90 to $100+ on a Wusthof blade because of the name. The same metal is used in a Wusthof as in the same set I got.

If your non serrated knife can't slice a tomato it needs sharpening. If you can't get it sharp enough then use a serrated knife till you can.
