Poll: What is the most overrated sport

I didn't put any martial art sports on the list. Not track and field either. The all get a pass with me on reasons of purity. Am I wrong? You could argue that, for example, heavyweight boxing is overrated.

All sports are overrated by some group or another. I don't think any martial arts would make the top of the list due to a lot less people overrating those sports, but if we are going by percentage of fans of a sport who overrate it, MMA is top of the list for sure, and I say that as an MMA fan. MMA fans are the worst.

I'm going by the sheer number of people who overrate a sport to determine which sport is the most overrated, and this is why I picked soccer. In America the most overrated sport would be American football, but worldwide, it's definitely soccer.

Soccer is overrated, but not everyone overrates it. Whether something is overrated or not is based on the perception of it's quality among the masses, compared to the actual quality of the sport to the person judging it's quality. There are more soccer fans who think a lot more highly of the sport than I do, compared to any other sport in the world.

MMA fans overrate MMA more than any other fans of any other sport overrate their sport, but there aren't that many MMA fans, so it's less overrated than many more popular sports that have a lower percentage of fans who overrate them. Overrated is about the biggest perception to reality gap in favor of the sport in question, and underrated is about the biggest perception to reality gap not in favor of the sport in question. High popularity and low quality being the most overrated sports, and High quality and low popularity being the most underrated sports.

Popularity plays a big role in whether or not something overrated. Overrated is based on popular perception compared to reality, you must not know what overrated means if you are going by a different metric.

If you think a sport is as popular as it should be based on it's quality, it's neither overrated or underrated. If you think a sport is more popular than it should be based on it's quality, that's overrate. If you think a sport is less popular than it should be based on quality, that's underrated.

NFL has trash branding and marketing...glorifies unprofessional characteristics and is over the top - recently, they’re making everything look like a fucking Video game.

Rarely do you see baseball, basket ball or hockey players celebrate standard plays in the manner promoted by the NFL.

Soccer suffers from a sort of self-reinforcing feedback. It gains importance from how many people care about it until it becomes ridiculous. I agree on that. It still isn't as ridiculous as the pain American Football fans put themselves through in order top consume 11 minutes of gameplay.

A lot of American sport seems to me to be pastimes. Not anything to be excited about, just what you have on in the background to rest your eyes on when the conversation gets boring.

Nah American Football is dope. Those 11 minutes of gameplay are awesome, stoppage heavy though it may be, soccer is boring a lot more often despite the flow of play involving less stoppages. Also football fans are less insufferable than soccer fans, on aggregate. Football fans point out dumb rules for example, and soccer fans defend them to the death.

In America, American Football is more overrated than soccer, in America soccer is probably slightly underrated, but worldwide soccer is the most overrated.
