Laser dots are an effective deterrent under the right circumstances.

I am skeptical of how much value is added in an IRL shoot condition.
Who would even care what some gun poser thought about your set up ?

I embrace aesthetic, I have a look for my guns that I am curating,

but what other people do is all good

So long as they own guns, I'm happy

Red flag for fake masculinity for me is always a posturing language. Actual masculinity is results. If for you that is done by using "training wheels", then what the fuck ever. Is the home invader dead and are the women and children safe? Done.
That's where I'm at, well said.
And again, the laser is mainly for the wife's gun, and she has only one or two range experiences.
In an adrenaline-pumping pinch I'd like her to be able to see "My shots will hit right around there" as she pulls that trigger over and over.

It's that, or have her just wing it in the dark the second or third time ever firing a gun.

...mine has a laser too, but it also has highly visible steel sights so it's a coin toss on whether I'd use it or not. Whatever seems the best combination of accuracy and speed in the moment, I guess.

For home defense, you might consider a laser dazzler rather than a laser sight

green laser to blind them

With my 870 I just use a tac-lite

It has a wide beam for search, a narrow beam for targeting, and a flashing mode for distracting

It's bright enough to blind, so that's all I need for my conops

Lasers are cheating. Its not fair to the ihome ntruder or whatever. Its like those hunters who dump a bag of corn out in a lit field at night and sit 10 yards away in a tower with a sniper rifle waiting for the game to come. You gotta give people a chance to fight for their lives.

Maybe if you at least left a bat or something or a machete for the burglar to pick up a laser sight would be a little more sportsmanlike.

I'll drop one on him afterward.
That's fair, isn't it?

Hmmmm. Tac-lite for the 870.
Hadn't thought about that.
Not bad.

With a shotgun you can just use the narrow beam, it centers you split second

That's actually how the SAS does it, they don't aim, they just point the light and bang-bang, bang

At the same time, again, I'm not saying don't use laser

I have a PEQ, but that's more of a military application for the AR

Which in Canada is range only, and which I wouldn't use for home defense short of zombie apocalypse

In terms of using my wheelguns, I'm not going to miss,

Aiming is not going to be the point of failure in a home defense gunfight
