but I just couldn't stay focused on board games
It's hard to get into something you dont like. Same goes for poker, I mean, I've tried a lot, but for whatever reason it just doesnt appeal to me. My in laws always want to play. I get bored and drink the beer as fast as I can.
Poker is all about managing your boredom threshold.
Boredom makes you play bad hands that you should lay down.
If I play online I like to play 3 or 4 games at once so I don't get bored.

Any of you guys play chess? If so, where did you learn?
My dad taught me. Then I played a lot against friends in the school library during breaks. We didn't have any club or such. When I had the game store, I used to read some chess books and played against the chess computers. Now I play against my son, but I stand no chance. He learned from me, then went on to https://lichess.org/. Training there has gotten him to the next level.

Yeah I rarely beat my brother anymore, unless I'm white, then I win at a decent rate

he also spent a ton of time on lichess getting good at it, so can't close the gap without sinking a ton of time into it

I do like billiards, that's my game

growing up shooting pool with my dad, and he was a master

so I am damn good at that

I am down for some pool. My family always plays cards. Spades, Hearts and Pinochle.

Lately the wife and I have Mexican Train dominoes with the cousin, an auntie and a friend.
I don't like to sit around, I'm always on my feet

with chess or cards, it's just sitting there, while I like to move around

billiards is physical, that's what I like about it

plus girls like it too, and you can hustle them while you're playing

I like the way you're thinking.

well it's like that Austrian girl I dated way back when

I picked her up at the AGO, but then we went to a pub

they had one pool table in the back, in its own little room

so I closed that deal with her at the pool table

she came around corner to set up for a shot, but didn't move, then I leaned in right there

it was like a scene out of the movies, billiards is co-ed, hot totty in the mix

and this girl looked like young Greta Scacchi, you won't find that in the chess club

It's weird, cus even if I'm winning I'm not really having fun. I end up just clock-watching. If I'm going to meeting with people at a house party, I'd rather just chop it up, shoot the shit and listen to music. No theme necessary.

me too, I don't want some stupid game getting in the way of the party

that's for people who don't party

if you like to party, that's the game

never mind the cards or whatever

just to get to dancing with the girls already

none of those broads do anything for me, none of them are in my wife's league

but I never met any girls at a poker night, it was always a sausage festival

I don't find degenerate gambling to be glamorous

like at a casino, it's just zombies sitting there staring at screens, throwing their money away

gambling is not socializing, it's the absence of socializing
