I just finished watching it (online, for free.) There's only one person in the whole world who can reach out to the aliens and the Chinese, and she happens to be a beautiful, young woman with a tragic past... but she is brave enough, smart enough, and strong enough, to overcome a world ruled by cowardly, stupid, and weak men--because she can see the future.

I think there was some paradoxical/circular logic going on when Amy Adams spoke to the Chinese man. That was the only part I had a problem with. iirc The aliens wanted Earth's help with some unexplained problem so it wasn't just benevolent aliens bestowing gifts on savage humans. They needed the humans for some reason.

Mostly I was into the alien design, the visuals, and the score.

What other motive do you see for an interstellar species to bother with making contact? It would be the equivalent of Europeans landing in South America. Just here for the loot, fuck off.

Calm down. Most of us already listened to NDT on Joe Rogan.

He's an optimistic guy, but I don't find it particularly realistic to broadcast our presence across the void, and expect a far more advanced species to come calling with purely altruistic motives.

I find it more likely that they'd simply ignore us and go about their business, unless we had something they want on our tiny rock. if that were the case, there would certainly be no reason for them to treat us as equals, other than as some sort of 'humanitarian' mission.
