When people cannot counter an argument, for many, their gut reaction is to try to shut down the people making those arguments with various tactics. When the shaming, name-calling, and shouting no longer work, they eventually move to de-platforming and censorship. When even that does not work they will resort to shutting down the mediums of communication if they can get away with it.

It is just human nature.

What's stopping any of these people who were banned from jumping platform to another one or creating their own?

Except Instagram, all of these platforms have active competitors.

That being said, I realize this is the naked bias of Silicon Valley liberals trying to shut down what they disagree with, but unlike say radio or television that's controlled by the FCC, the internet is still fair game for anyone

By the time Americans woke up on Wednesday, the Legislative Committee had voted on the final form of the EU Copyright Directive—the first major update to European copyright law since 2001. Much of what’s in the legislation has been met with approval, but Article 11 and Article 13 are considered disastrous by some of the foremost tech experts in the world.

Explaining what’s wrong with these two points of the legislation in detail is difficult because the articles themselves are so vague. That’s the primary issue for critics. Both articles make unprecedented demands on anyone operating a popular website to monitor copyrighted material and to pay fees to news organizations when linking out to their articles. Defenders of the plan say that critics are exaggerating because of assumptions they’re making about how the legislation will be implemented. Critics, like one of the “fathers of the internet,” Vint Cerf, and the inventor of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee, say the risks outweigh the benefits. Who are you going to believe?

That's funny, but do not lose sight of the fact that they chose him because he is an asshole. If we let this slide then it will just keep expanding.

He says stupid shit all the time. Defend the principle, not the man.

Which is why they are pushing for legislation to change that.
