Kubb has been played at our juggling convention for years. I didn't realise it was a Viking game, it was introduced to us by a German attendee so I assumed it was German.

Kubb was invented in Sweden in the 1990s. In one of the first rules booklets there was mentioned that it was a Viking game but there is no basis for that statement. Just a marketing ploy.

It's Midsommar in Sweden. You might think that Scandinavians celebrate Midsommar the same way in Norway and Denmark. They light fires. That's all they do. They don't even call it Midsommar but Sankt Hans (St John's) since they celebrate it in a more Christian way. In Sweden it's a time for friends and family to gather around.

Btw, we celebrate it too. It's also celebrated in the Baltic countries. Called here Juhannus. The Festival comes from time before Christianity, actually. And naturally the Catholic church had to come up with a Christian feast for the day. (Can't have people celebrating some Pagan rituals)

Make a kokko, a bonfire or midsummer pyre, hoist the Finnish Flag up from Friday 6.00PM to Saturday 21:00PM, go to the Sauna and drink a lot of Koskenkorva with friends.

Do the Sankt Hans bonfires in Norway also sometimes have a witch on top? We're seeing that less and less these days here.

The midsommer festivities look awesome. I'd love to see more cultural gatherings like that around here. It's a definite weak point in American culture.

I totally forgot St. Hans this year. Need to go to Sweden the next year, since that's almost their national day.
