Book 2 of Allan Mallinson's "Matthew Hervey" British cavalry series. It's like Patrick O'brian except they geek out about horses instead of preventer stays and hanging knees. The young, bland hero is in India hunting boar with a minor Rajah on horseback with spears. Why isn't this a thing in the parts of the South infested with wild pigs? Seems a natural! Maybe for all the hats and boots those cowboys really don't have the horse skills?

Finished it. Awesome book. A bit sad at the end when they talked about his death. I feel my mind is cleaner after reading it. The same way a long shower can make your body feel when you are way overdue for one. I recommend it for everyone.
