For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Re: The Mess
Actually, French Canadians are almost as big a bunch of shit eaters as the Poms, simply by choice, it's really just Canadian society overall, Canadians are used to a certain high standard of living, and the military simply reflects the society, although again, bear in mind, French Canadians are French Hillbillies, so we're not talking about Parisian's here, and they eat almost as many chips as a Tommy in fact. Quebec is not the culinary capital of the Confederation, we eat far better here in Upper Canada.Montegriffo wrote:The influence of the French, if nothing else they know their grub.Smitty-48 wrote:Well we don't call the British Army the Shit Eaters for nothing. Never seen it but I bet the food in the French army is top notch.

Meh, it varies, the thing about the French Army, is that it was a conscript army for most of its existence, so it still carries the DNA of that, hence, the more elite the unit, the better the appointments, certainly, 1er RPIMA, the French SAS, live in a palatial fortress in Bayonne, but that's the French SAS, the standard varies quite widely and not all French garrisons are created equal.

Canada is far more egalite than France, we have one high standard across the board, France has a tendency to ghettoize based on hierarchy.Montegriffo wrote:No egalite? Standards have fallen amongst the snail eaters.

If only that were the case, in reality, gun regulations in the good ol' US of A are actually legion, and most of them are entirely nonsensical, and in terms of gun liberty, I wouldn't actually be better off moving from here to New York City, New York City would arguably be worse.

Perhaps not a summary, but a comment.GrumpyCatFace wrote: Summarize, please...
Note that in paper six contexts of warfare in 2035, starts with "Violent Ideological Competition focused on the subversion or overthrow of established governments" and also has A Contest for Cyberspace. Looking at the paper, I think think it is more on the lines of "What we see the threat in 2017-2018, but can talk about it more loosely". Hence the paper actually tells about what the JCOS thinks about the present situation.
One thing is funny, and I have to apologize for giving a quote in the Mess:
So you have to reason this, because otherwise people wouldn't think that the underlying reason for military deterrence is defence of sovereign territory? Still sounds a bit funny: the Brits in 1814, the Japs in 1941 and one successful coordinated terrorist attack and yes, man the beaches and defend the borders! They are coming for your country and territory, every uh, 93 and a half years on average. The United States has endured attacks and raids on its territory in the past. Among others, these have included the burning of Washington, D.C. by invading British forces in 1814, the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, and the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington in 2001. All underscore the enduring requirement for military capabilities and operational approaches to physically defend U.S. sovereign territory
