Income Tax vs. Sales Tax

Post by Martin Hash » Sun Apr 07, 2013 5:49 am

Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal wants to eliminate his state’s Income tax and replace it with higher Sales tax. If Jindal is as smart as people say he is then he certainly KNOWS this is reverse Robin Hoodery leading to the consolidation of wealth. Even bank robber Willie Sutton could explain the superiority of Income taxes: “because that’s where the money is.” I used to think Republicans were simply too brainwashed to understand taxation but it now seems more likely they really are bent on establishing a Nouveau Aristocracy of the Riche! Their mouths say “liberty” but their actions scream elitism.

It works like this:
With Sales tax, the percentage of net worth paid by the poor is astronomical as compared to the rich. From an accounting pov, money is being concentrated into the hands of the rich at the expense of the poor. There are those who say that’s how it should be – the rewards should go to the “winners,” that it’s “fair.” Well, mathematics has never cared about fairness. This redistribution of wealth can only continue until the “losers” have decided they don’t like the deal any longer then the rich are going to need their guns.
